A new mathematical model unravels the dynamic behavior of neutrophils in the context of influenza vaccination.
An interdisciplinary research project carried by the groups of Dr. Gonzalez -IRB- and prof. Krause -ICS-, captured via intravital microscopy the complex movement patterns of neutrophils following influenza vaccination. Then, they modeled the movement of neutrophils as a sequence of actions. This model unraveled the dynamic response of neutrophils which was previosuly unknown. This study, published at Frontiers in Immunology on November 20th 2019, paves the way for future applications of mathematical models and computer vision methods in immunological research.
